A selective pathway for individuals whose achievements in business, science, culture, or sport deliver measurable benefit to Slovakia. It bypasses standard requirements such as long-term residence and Slovak language proficiency. It is a rare route, and an entirely discretionary one. Success depends on how well you make the case.

01 Overview
The route for people whose work matters to Slovakia
Slovakia reserves this pathway for individuals whose extraordinary achievements transcend conventional boundaries, whether in science, technology, culture, sports, economics, or society at large. The Ministry of the Interior may grant citizenship even where standard requirements (years of uninterrupted residence, Slovak language proficiency) are not met, provided doing so is in the interest of the Slovak Republic.
This is a discretionary route: no one is entitled to it. Meeting the formal conditions gets your file read, but it doesn’t guarantee approval, even when you meet them. Each application is evaluated individually on the demonstrable significance of the contribution and its alignment with the national interest. Existing connections to Slovakia, such as cultural, professional, or personal ties, strengthen an application but are not required.
It is most often pursued by investors making strategic commitments to the Slovak economy, distinguished professionals, internationally recognized cultural and athletic figures, and individuals whose work delivers measurable benefit to Slovak society.

The law doesn’t define exceptional merit with a checklist. Each case is judged by the significance of the contribution, how lasting its effect is likely to be, and how directly it serves the Slovak public interest.
03 The process
How the case is built
Phase 01
Strategic evaluation
We start with a confidential look at who you are, what you’ve done, and what you’re proposing to do for Slovakia, measured against how the Ministry of the Interior actually exercises its discretion and what the state currently treats as a priority. You get a plain answer: whether this route is realistic for you, which other routes might fit better, and what timeframe and effort to expect.
Phase 02
Strategic case development
Exceptional-merit applications succeed on positioning. We work on the following at once:
- Strategic narrative: We set out why your contribution matters to Slovakia in the terms the Ministry of the Interior uses when it weighs these cases.
- Endorsements: We approach Slovak state bodies, cultural and academic institutions, and industry organizations whose support carries weight with the Ministry.
- The evidence: We organize achievements, publications, press, awards, and business records so what matters stands out and is placed in context. What you choose to show, and how you explain it, counts for as much as what you’ve done.
- Procedural perfection: Sworn translations, apostilles, and paperwork prepared to the higher standard required for discretionary files.
Phase 03
Submission
The application is filed at a District Office in Slovakia or at a Slovak Embassy or Consulate in your country of citizenship or residence, together with proof of your Slovak residence permit and the full contribution dossier. Our oversight at this stage prevents delays and ensures the case is complete from the moment it’s submitted.
Phase 04
Proceedings & oath
Once the application reaches the Ministry, it has up to 24 months to decide. The Ministry evaluates the documentation, verifies credentials, and may seek expert opinions from other governmental bodies. We respond promptly to every request on your behalf and keep you informed. If your application is approved, you take the oath, receive the Deed of Granting Slovak Citizenship, and become a Slovak citizen.
Statutory period: 24 months at the Ministry Decision: fully discretionary
04 The dossier
Where the case is decided
In the standard routes, the file is largely a matter of the right documents in the right order. Here, the file is the case. The Ministry of the Interior decides how strong and well-evidenced the contribution is, so the dossier is where most of the work goes.

The formal layer
Beyond contribution evidence: passport, birth certificate, criminal background check, marital-status verification, and supporting affidavits. A valid Slovak residence permit is required, but years of uninterrupted residence are not.
